Another story from the media about children not getting enough food at school lunch. Here a story from Luxemburg Wisconsin.
Local High School Students Upset Over New Lunch Portions
Luxemburg -
For lunch Thursday, the Luxemburg-Casco High School cafeteria served up baked turkey ham or hamburger, scalloped potatoes, wheat dinner rolls, and your choice of fresh fruits and veggies.Even with all those options, one student said, “We had more food for the old school lunches.”
New guidelines from the USDA doubles the servings of fruits and veggies and limits proteins and carbs for a maximum 850 calories per plate. But, students say that’s not enough.
“Everyone goes home hungry,” said student Amber Duescher.
Her friend Megan Tlachac adds the portions “got like super duper small.”
Since the hot lunches shrunk in size, students say more of them are walking across the street to places like McDonald’s and Subway.
One student who took advantage of the open lunch said he spent $7 on a 20-piece order of McNuggets and large french fries. He admits it’s not the healthiest choice but it does keep him full for the rest of the afternoon. According to the McDonald’s web site, the student athlete consumed 1,440 calories at lunch.
If it’s not fast food or the hot lunches students are consuming, some even fire up burgers and brats on a grill in the parking lot. They ran out of charcoal Wednesday.

Children are now grilling out just to eat at lunch? Shouldn’t the government or the schools supply the charcoal and lighter fluid for the students? You know some grocery stores have brat fry’s for good causes in local cities and towns, why not do the same at schools to raise money for the schools. What’s next, can someone send a lunch truck to every school at lunch time. Come to think of it, just park your truck next to the school and make a bundle of money.
Notice there is no mention that the new lunch rules was pushed by Michelle Obama and passed by democrats in 2010. Huh!
