Detroit — The Lions’offense was going through its final film session of the week Saturday night when suddenly the screen blinked, off and on, and there was receiver Nate Burleson, lying in his hospital bed just a day removed from season-ending surgery.

“Everybody’s eyes just lit up,” center Dominic Raiola said. “We didn’t know that was coming, you know, and there he was, lying in the bed looking like he just got his leg amputated or something, and then he sat up and started giving us a pep talk. It was really cool.”

Burleson implored his teammates to carry on the fight without him and they did just that, with another rousing last-drive victory Sunday, beating the Seahawks, 28-24 at Ford Field.

“That was a big deal for us,” Raiola said. “And I think you saw all 46 guys out there playing with Nate’s spirit and passion.”
