Beware, metro Detroit: The feds are out — and looking for payback on late student loans

By David Jesse Detroit Free Press StaffDave Blume stopped paying on his college student loan six months ago. Now, the 29-year-old Detroiter doesn’t like to answer his phone, answer the door, or even open his mail.
“They are going to catch up with me at some point,” he said. “I just hope to make some money to start paying it off before that happens.”
He has reason to worry.

If you live in eastern Michigan and owe the federal government money from a student loan, your chances of being hauled into federal court are greater than anywhere else in the country, except the Los Angeles area.
