Eric Dompierre’s underdog story featured in Sports Illustrated contest
by Jerry TudorSHPEMING — Ishpeming High School athletics may be in line for a big grant thanks to Powerade and Sports Illustrated.
Eric Dompierre is an Ishpeming teen with Down Syndrome, who fought and won a battle with the Michigan High School Athletic Association to play sports his senior year at the age of 19.
Eric and his family fought for a waiver from the MHSAA to play sports past the age of 18. Eric’s story is the subject of a short documentary on the Sports Illustrated website.
He’s one of 10 underdog stories that you can vote on. The winning story’s high school will receive a $25,000 grant for athletics.
