LWV Cries Foul
This story made me chuckle for a couple of reasons.

APPLETON — Some members of The League of Women Voters think Republican candidates are boycotting the group’s hallmark candidate forums because they are angry the league opposes Wisconsin’s Voter ID law.

First, it’s laughable that the story line is that the LWV are being shunned because of their political stances despite the fact that the Republicans involved completely deny it. In other words, it’s rampant speculation on the part of the LWV officials – with no supporting evidence – and the reporter runs with it anyway. Pretty sad.

Second, if the LWV officials’ speculation is true, who could blame Republicans for shunning them? Long ago they moved from an organization dedicated to education and process to one of advocacy. When you move into advocacy, you can expect to have people disagree with you and decline to support your organization. The League of Women Voters is a private organization and nobody is obligated to even acknowledge them – much less support them – if they don’t want to. The indignant sense of entitlement in their statements is laughable.
