CHICAGO — Round 1 goes to the Chicago White Sox.
Back-to-back home runs by Alex Rios and A.J. Pierzynski in the sixth inning turned the game around Monday as the Detroit Tigers suffered a 6-1 loss to the Chicago White Sox.
The Tigers now trail the White Sox by three games in the Central Division race. They need to win the remaining three games in the series to pull into a first-place tie.
KEY TO THE GAME
Rick Porcello allowed just two hits in the first five innings and escaped trouble during that time. (The White Sox were 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position through five innings.) But he gave up a couple of huge game-changing blows to Rios and Pierzynski.
Rios sent a three-run shot over the wall in left field to make it 3-1, and Pierzynski hit a solo shot to center to make it 4-1. The home run by Pierzynski chased Porcello from the game.
