Police use pepper spray to disperse fights Downtown; several cited, one arrested

Madison police used pepper spray to break up pockets of fighting which broke out in a large crowd Downtown early Saturday, and one man was arrested for allegedly attempting to headbutt an officer during the melee, police said.

The fighting began in small groups in a crowd of approximately 200 people which gathered near State Street and North Frances Street just after 2 a.m., according Lt. Stephanie Bradley Wilson.
