The first Lion preseason game is history and the Free Press has some thoughts.

What we learned about Detroit Lions in Friday’s exhibition

Five things we learned from the Lions’ 19-17 preseason-opening loss to the Browns:

Great expectations: Jim Schwartz had reason to be ticked Friday. The Lions were sloppy at times, out of sync, and it’s never good to lose a lead in the final minute. Mostly though, his irascibility showed just how high his expectations are this year.

Deep end: Cliff Avril and Kyle Vanden Bosch didn’t play Friday, but Willie Young (one sack) and Everette Brown (1 1/2 sacks) had good days pass rushing. With Lawrence Jackson and Ronnell Lewis also in the mix, the Lions are deeper at defensive end than first thought.

WUPN: It’s only preseason which does not mean much. The regular season is for all the marbles.
